insight meditation

i've been really interested in meditation for a long time, but recently purchased a book called :
"INSIGHT MEDITATION-The Practice of Freedom"


meditation: a mental discipline by which one attempts to get beyond the reflexive, "thinking" mind into a deeper state of relaxation or awareness. Meditation often involves turning attention to a single point of reference...

the book in its early pages discusses how when meditating, if a feeling of pain/pressure or a thought slips into your mind..dont try to rid yourself of it by ignoring it..but turn your attention to it. if you feel a pain/pressure, think about the focal point of it, and more times than not, you will find that spot to be relieved..same goes for thoughts..they slip into your mind for recognition, so simply recognize it, and you can continue with your meditation period.

this stuff really interests me..i meditate atleast once day, whether its before i surf or before i go to bed. if im stressed out and things are not going the way id like, meditation always helps me get into the right frame of mind. frame of mind is what it comes down to. you have to be open when trying to learn meditation.
